چکیده
Abstract. In a recently introduced parameterization for the soil water retention curve (SWRC) with sigmoid wet branch and logarithmic dry branch, matric potential at junction point of (hj) was fitting parameter, while that oven dryness (hd) derived from parameters. The latter is undesirable, especially if reliable data in range are limited. Therefore, an alternative presented which shape parameter α instead hd can be fitted or fixed. resulting relationship between hj such it prevents correct fits hj. Fortunately, expression found allows to replaced by as parameter. corresponding space well behaved has fewer internal bounds defined restraining relationships parameters than few available values literature line those according new expression. reformulated SWRC 21 soils shuffled complex evolution. paper gives main features accompanying open source code. curves fit well, except some clayey soils. Chemical migration during soil water retention curve evaluation.
Wetting and drying (W-D) cycles can induce important elemental migrations in soils. The main purpose of this work was to study the possible existence of soil chemical elemental migrations in samples submitted to repeated W-D cycles during evaluations of soil water retention curve (SWRC). The experimental measurements were carried out by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) for Ca(2+), Mg(2+) an...
متن کاملExtrapolative Capability of Two Models That Estimating Soil Water Retention Curve between Saturation and Oven Dryness
Accurate estimation of soil water retention curve (SWRC) at the dry region is required to describe the relation between soil water content and matric suction from saturation to oven dryness. In this study, the extrapolative capability of two models for predicting the complete SWRC from limited ranges of soil water retention data was evaluated. When the model parameters were obtained from SWRC d...
متن کاملWater Retention and Characteristic Curve
A soil-water characteristic (SWC) curve describes the amount of water retained in a soil (expressed as mass or volume water content, m or v) under equilibrium at a given matric potential. An SWC is an important hydraulic property, related to size and connectedness of pore spaces, hence strongly affected by soil texture and structure, and by other constituents, including organic matter. Modeling...
متن کاملWhen Is Science 'Ultimately Unreliable'?
This past October, I published an editorial (Blatt, 2015) appraising the social media phenomenon of PubPeer. I raised several issues with the Web site that I maintain do not serve the scientific community and will only entrench many of the underlying attitudes and behaviors that PubPeer claims it seeks to counter. The response tomyeditorial exceededall expectations— in 18 days it garnered 348 c...
متن کاملEstimation of Water Retention Curve for Unsaturated Fine Soils
In order to obtain the soil water retention curve of an unsaturated soil which is defined as the relationship between water content and suction, extensive laboratory tests are essential. These laboratory tests are usually costly and time consuming. Moreover, for most practical problems, it has been found that approximate unsaturated soil properties are adequate for analysis. Thus, empirical pro...
